Service Line Coverage (Optional)
Service Line Coverage is an optional coverage on a Homeowners Policy that’s designed to pay for damage to service lines, which causes them to leak, break, rupture, tear, or collapse. A service line is typically defined as an underground line or wiring that connects your house to the main line or service provider. Although this coverage option can pay for damaged underground electrical lines, the majority of significant losses come from damaged underground water or sewer service lines and depending on how far your house is from the main line, these repairs can be extremely expensive. If you don’t have this or a similar coverage extension then you’ll most likely pay for 100% of the repairs out of pocket. They vary from carrier to carrier, but this coverage option most frequently comes with limits of $10,000 to $15,000 with a $500 deductible.
Older neighborhoods with longstanding trees often times have aged service lines, along with extensive root activity. Together, these factors can lead to leaks or ruptures in water or sewer lines. If you’re in a newer house that’s near the road then this coverage may not be something you need. It’s best to sit down and talk with your agent and discuss your situation and determine what’s best for you. Call, click, or stop by. We appreciate you and your business.
